Serbian writer Vladimir Arsenijevic was attacked today in Belgrade by a group of more than 20 people, while preparations were being made to organize a memorial ceremony dedicated to the victims of the Srebrenica genocide. As a result of the incident, the organizers canceled the event. Arsenijevic was attacked near Branko’s Bridge, shortly before the planned ceremony began.

“When I came here this morning, I encountered a group of 20 to 30 people who hit me, threatened me with now familiar vocabulary, and covered the entire space with their messages,” he declared. Despite the event’s cancellation, Arsenijevic said the attack will not stop their work and activism in the future.

Before the incident, in the early hours of the morning, the coalition “Ljudi pamte ljude” (“People Remember People”) had placed a large installation in the shape of the Srebrenica Flower at the same location, next to which was placed the inscription: “Srebrenica 8.372 – People Remember People.”
