The US imposes tariffs on Russia for the first time

The United States has imposed new tariffs of 10 percent to 12.5 percent on imports from 60 countries. World media have reported that European Union member states, China, the United Kingdom, India, Canada, Mexico — and for the first time, Russia — have been involved.

Russia has been included in the list of countries that Washington says are not taking sufficient measures against forced labor, euronews writes. It had been excluded from Trump’s previous tariff packages, as trade between the two countries was already severely restricted due to sanctions.

The new measures replace previous tariffs, which US courts had declared illegal, concluding that Trump had exceeded his presidential powers. Economists warn that a large part of the cost of these tariffs will ultimately be passed on to American consumers and businesses through higher prices. /Telegraph
