The President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, stated that Warsaw wants to establish a permanent US military base on its territory. Speaking at the NATO summit in Ankara, Nawrocki said that around 10,000 US troops are currently stationed in Poland and that their presence should be transformed into a long-term commitment through a permanent base.
“I am convinced that American soldiers will remain in Poland and, together with Polish troops, will help protect Central and Eastern Europe, as well as NATO’s borders,” Nawrocki declared.
Poland’s request for a larger and more permanent US military presence comes at a time when countries on NATO’s eastern flank are increasing their defense capabilities, due to security concerns related to the war in Ukraine and Russia’s military activities.
Poland is one of the US’s largest allies in Europe and has significantly increased defense spending, aiming to strengthen its role as a key point of defense on NATO’s eastern flank. /Telegraph
