A large fire that broke out yesterday on Dugi Otok, Croatia, spread rapidly due to strong winds and engulfed difficult-to-reach terrain covered in dense vegetation. In some areas, the flames even approached the road, while dramatic footage was filmed by firefighters and citizens, writes index.hr.
Firefighters battled the flames throughout the night and focused on protecting homes and villas scattered across the bays. A video filmed by a fire truck shows the extent of the fire, which at times appeared to have engulfed the entire street.

Around 50 firefighters with 17 vehicles were transported by ferry, bringing the number of firefighters on the ground to around 100. In the morning, two more Canadair aircraft joined the extinguishing operation.
