Muhammad remains the most popular name for boys in England and Wales, while Olivia continues to top the list for girls. Data for babies born in 2025 shows that Olivia is the most popular name for girls for the tenth consecutive year, while Muhammad is the most popular name for girls for the third consecutive year.

For boys, Muhammad is followed by Noah in second place and Leo in third place. For girls, Lily has moved up to second place, while Amelia, who was previously in second place, has fallen to third place, writes BBC. According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), 5,957 boys were named Muhammad in 2025.

Variants of this name were also popular: Mohammed ranked 20th with 1,712 uses, while Mohammad ranked 55th with 895 uses. For girls, Olivia was chosen for 2,386 babies, followed by Lily with 2,249 and Amelia with 2,153. The top ten also includes Isla, Florence, Freya, Poppy, Elsie, Ivy and Isabella.
