Train collision in England – 89 injured, 11 of them in very serious condition

A serious rail accident has occurred in East Anglia, where the collision of two trains has caused a large number of injuries. According to the emergency service, 89 people were affected by the accident, while one victim was previously reported by the police.

Authorities have announced that 11 people have been seriously injured, 22 have been seriously injured, while 56 others have suffered minor injuries, writes the BBC. Following the accident, all rail lines between Luton and Bedford have been blocked, with rail traffic disrupted. Trains scheduled for the rest of the day have been cancelled.

Passengers on trains along the affected line have been asked to remain in their seats and await further instructions from rail operators. Emergency services, firefighters, police and a medical helicopter have arrived at the scene. Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that crews are working at the scene of the accident, south of Bedford.

A spokesman for the Thameslink rail company said emergency services were dealing with the situation and investigations were underway to determine the cause of the collision.
